About
We specialize in commercial law, real estate law, and regulatory compliance for companies operating in, or expanding into, the Canadian market. Our work is grounded in the realities of building and scaling a business, which is why we focus on the common in-house needs of growing companies, such as commercial and government contracting, strategic negotiations, commercial leasing, compliance plans, T&Cs, product law, and marketing and advertising claims review.
Our rate structures are transparent and predictable, whether you choose ongoing fractional counsel or a defined project mandate, so you can access top flight legal support without the unpredictability or the sticker shock typically associated with external counsel.
Our Story
PORTALIS was built on a simple idea: give clients a top-tier in-house counsel experience without the overhead that usually comes with it. This idea informs our approach in three ways.
First, we approach every file with an in-house mindset, so our advice is always framed in the context of your operational goals and risk tolerance.
Second, we don’t measure our value by the hours we bill or the rates we charge. We measure it by the speed, clarity, and assurance we bring to your decisions. We help you bridge legal requirements with practical execution, just like you would expect from your general counsel.
Third, we work on an embedded, fractional model that mirrors the way in-house lawyers operate, while continuing to provide ad hoc legal support for your more punctual needs. So whether you need a dedicated legal partner a few days a week or highly-scoped project-based support, we offer a flexible, affordable, and scalable solution that grows with your business.
Like in-house, without the cost structure.
